Delhi Business School (DBS) conducted its 2nd Business Responsibility
Summit on "Leadership in Multicultural World" on Saturday, 24th September
2011. It was a one day summit divided in 3 sessions wherein 7 speakers
from industry participated, the details are as under:

The summit started with lightening of lamp followed by introductory
note by Ms. Divya Rajput, Director, Delhi Business School motioning
the key focus areas and need for re-visiting the business basics and
leadership skills, approach for sustain in present global market where
boundaries no more exist and dealing with customers of different region,
languages, interest and habits. She emphasized on the need for developing
competencies in Mono-cultural leaders so that they have global concepts
and local knowledge and transform to Multi-cultural leaders.
Dr. Parul Agarwal, Dean – Academics extended welcome to esteemed
speakers, faculty members & students of DBS and participants from
various colleges, industry. She also mentioned the strategies adopted
by companies like Pepsi, TCS, Infosys and many more about being adopted
for their sustainability and continuous growth.
Mr. Salil Sahu, Managing Director, Home Stores India Ltd. delivered
the keynote address on “Challenges of Multicultural World”.
He mentioned that companies should focus on research methodology, study
the customer needs and interest areas and innovate in services, product
designing and distribution methods. Being the market so competitive,
innovation plays a major role in meeting the stakeholder’s expectations.
Session 1: Redefining Leadership through Multiculturalism
Prof. (Brig) Ramesh Chandra introduced the speakers the Session 1 on
“Redefining Leadership through Multiculturalism”, which
started with remarkable words of Mr. Ravi Chaudhary, Chairman, CNext
Consulting & Investment Pvt. Ltd. on Leadership. He mentioned that
leaders should keep updating themselves as time changes and identify
the grey areas well in advance for immediate action. He also insisted
on developing team of “Thinking Pool” for developing and
refining the strategies. He also added that today 720 degree views is
required for a leader to solve problem rather using 360 degree view
every time. Second, speaker Ms. Nymph Kaul spoke on Emotional Intelligence
mentioned that it’s very important and necessary to handle the
team issue and solve them at the earliest. She added Emotional intelligence
(EI) is an ability, skill or, in the case of the trait EI model, a self-perceived
ability to identify, assess, and control the emotions of oneself, of
others, and of groups. Various models and definitions have been proposed
of which the ability and trait EI models are the most widely accepted
in the scientific literature. The session moderator & final speaker,
Mr. Salil Sahu emphasized on cultural framework, motivating employee,
employment orientation and need to leaders to delegate responsibility
and authority. He mentioned that till employees don’t take the
ownership, a defined work frame can’t be developed. The session
ended with Q & A from participants and vote of thanks by Ms. Divya
Rajput.
Session 2: Is there a need to Re-Look at business ethics in
Multicultural World?
Mr. Himanshu Mahobia, Associate Professor, DBS; introduced the session
2 speakers and moderator. Mr. Kris Nair, Executive Director, Opdrage
Venture Partners, the inaugural speaker for session 2 insisted upon
development of entrepreneurship skills and developing more and more
entrepreneurship. He mentioned today higher management people needs
to be equipped with business and entrepreneurial skills for forecasting
and developing geographical specific needs. The second speaker, Mr.
Anil Behal, MD & Founder, ORGDYNE Training & Consulting spoke
about important of building trust & credibility among and employees
and stakeholder through transparency. The session moderator & final
speaker, Mr. Yogesh Bahadur, Pentacle Energy & Infra Projects Pvt.
Ltd. spoke about reaching the target audience, understanding their needs
& requirement and developing strong bonding for continuous development.
The session ended with Q & A and vote of thanks by Ms. Divya Rajput.
Session 3: Technology Transfers: Success & Challenges
Dr. Priyank Azad, Associate Professor, DBS; introduced the theme for
session 3 and esteemed speakers. The inaugural speaker Ms. Maya Gupta,
CMO & Founder, Mind Genius spoke about the advancement of IT services
helping in better and fast communication, information sharing without
any limited boundaries. She quoted the example of portals like just
dial, ebay and many more resulted in very quick business recognition,
reaching to masses and profit maximization. She said IT is one of the
most cost effective and important tool for branding and promotions.
She spoke about the advancement and strategies adopted by Mind Genius
time to time. Due to some last minute medical emergency, Ms. Bhawana
Bakshi, Manager – HR, Varite India Pvt. Ltd. could not make it
to the event. Mr. Satyan Chatirvedi, Global Head, V-Customer had to
represent his company at a client meeting and could not attend the Summit.
Needless to say, we missed their presence. The session ended with Q&A
from enthusiastic participants.
The summit ended with vote of thanks to esteemed speakers and participants
followed by Hi-Tea.
