Orientation Program July 2010 (27th - 30th July)
Day 1 Main Attraction:
Oath taking ceremony PLEDGE We, the student of Delhi
Business School do hereby solemnly affirm that We will strive forward
relentlessly, in our search for knowledge, We will leave no stone unturned
in an effort to transform us so as to surpass all expectations keeping
duty, discipline, and dedication at the forefront. We will do that is
right and not what's easy We will give our best shot each and every time
We will set the standard, as WE are the future We are a part of this institute
so that our name is intertwined with DBS forever!

What DBS expects new students to do?
This activity was conducted by Brig.(Prof.) Ramesh Chandra and prof
Kiran Malhotra by lending a glimpse to the road ahead which has immense
opportunities to explore and outshine in life. They said, "It was
very important to be hu ngry to learn, have inner aspirations and perspirations
by taking everything in one's stride... One should never think that
he or she knows everything and should always be a learner. Two line
of a poem were recited - "CHADHE HIMALYA KI CHOTI PER,
AUR BHI UPAR CHADHNA HAI. HAME HIMALAY KE BHI UPAR NAYA HIMALAY GARHNA
HAI".
Further They assured the students that they were not alone in this task.
They had the support of the whole DBS family .They should put in their
hundred percent in acquiring personal and organizational skills and
competencies, develop capability to adapt to diverse cultures and organizational
and institutional set ups. To give their new life a great start a small
two minute motivational movie was shown which immensely engrossed the
students.
A session on Communication and Soft skills
Dr. Suman Suhag and Ms. Nidhi Benipuri made the students aware
of importance of Communication and Soft Skills in today's global world.
What are soft skills? Soft skills refer to a very diverse range of abilities
such as:
Self-awareness, Analytical thinking, Leadership skills, Team-building
skills , Flexibility, Ability to communicate effectively, Creativity,
Problem-solving skills and Listening skills Apart from the regular curriculum,
it is very important for an individual to develop soft skills. It is
very important for every person to maintain healthy relationships with
everyone/clients. After a thorough survey the professors have come up
with a conclusion that group discussions, storytelling sessions, debates,
personal interviews, just a minute(JAM) sessions play a diversified
role in improving soft skills of an individual. A touch of personality
development, adds the advantage to control emotions. Activities Undertaken:

Guest Lecture
Mr. Osama Manzar
Osama Manzar is a convert social entrepreneur spearheading the mission
to overcome the information barrier between India's rural sector, and
the so-called developed society, through Digital Empowerment Foundation
(DEF) -- the not-for-profit organization founded to accomplish the mission;
http://www.defindia.net. He is Member, Task Force on Growth of IT, ITES
& Electronics HW Manufacturing Industry, Ministry of Comm &
IT, India.
Mr. Vipul Datta
(CEO FutureSoft Solutions Private Limited)
Having vast experience with Futuresoft where he has learnt all aspects
of business and today this learning helps him to drive the new initiatives
required in line with companies vision and goal.
Mr. Animesh Osta
Animesh Osta, is associated with Escorts Construction Equipment Limited,
where he has completed his MBA-HR from Xavier Institute. His has rich
experience in various HR domains as well as worked with renowned organizations
like Punj Lloyd, Airtel, HDFC bank.
Collage making competition
One of the major attractions of the orientation program was the collage
competition. Total 4 teams participated with different themes like Politics,
Fashion, and terrorism. Team A was the winner and team D was at the
second position. It was a great movement to interact with new students
and students also showed their keen interest in the collage competition.
We would like to thank the DBS management for giving us such an opportunity.
Ad-Mad Show
The students were divided in 5 groups. Each group was asked to think
of a brand and the way they will market it.15 minutes
Time was given to them for the same. Students were very enthusiastic
and came out with new brands. They advertised it by skits and short
plays. The purpose was to develop their creativity & team spirit.
First and second prizes were given to the best teams.
It was done under the guidance of Mrs Santosh Singh & Mr Loknath
Mishra
Case Study
The theme of the event to make the students used to the case study methodology.
The event was an deep exposure to the various aspects of academic inputs
in an interesting manner .The Team comprised of prof Kiran Malhotra,
Dr.Suman ,Dr. Kirti Jain and Ms Ritu Sharma .The session was conducted
in an interactive manner and the students were very motivated and charged
up by the end of the session by viewing the interesting clips based
on the marketing advertisements and on motivation theme . It turned
out to be a wonderful and memorable event.

Day 3 Main Attractions:
Debate
Keeping in view the importance of "Debate Competition" to
motivate the new students (MBA, Batch: 2010-12) to explore certain issues
of controversy, Delhi Business School organized this event during the
third day (i.e., 29th July 2010) of orientation programme. Many of new
students came forward to availing this opportunity. In the morning different
teams of students were given the topics for debate and advised to prepare
& appear for the "Debate Competition" in the afternoon.
The response was appreciable. This event provided the platform for the
students to introduce new ideas and spark their own intellectual creativity
and argument innovations. Even the audience comprising of students,
faculties and staff enjoyed the arguments on controversial issues such
as "Nuclear Testing should be banned or not", "Impact
of Globalization of developing countries like India", etc. At the
end of this event, winners were announced for prize distribution.

Computer wizard
An activity Session on Computer-Wizard was arranged by IT-Club for the
students conducted by Ms. Sweta Seth(ACP), Ms. Rekha Vats and Mr. Kavindra
Singh.
Importance of Computer Wizard:
• To create a social interaction between students who share their
interest, which provide a sense of empowerment and expertise.
• To Inspire them to strive and reach more difficult levels presenting
challenging at each level.
• To teach students problem solving, motivation and cognitive
skills.
The event created a joyful environment .Students enjoyed a lot.
Group Marketing Exercise
One of the most exciting sessions of the orientation program was the
Group Marketing Exercise.
This marketing-based activity was aimed at introducing the participants
to the concept of marketing and issues that arise when trying to market
a product or an idea.
The basic idea behind organizing such events is to make the students
aware of the innovative methods in teaching adopted at Delhi
Business School which in turn helps in enhancing the overall
personality of students and inculcating excellence. The students were
divided into groups. Each group was given a product for which they had
to develop a marketing and advertising strategy.
The event enabled the students to appreciate the fact that marketing
exercise is primarily aimed at convincing other people to adopt the
idea or product as well as the ability to practice them in simulated
business environment. The students came up with innovative ideas of
product promotion and thoroughly enjoyed the session.
